A little further north a rumour is doing the rounds.
To wit, that John Howard and Malcolm Turnbull are experiencing some difficulty in bringing elements in the Senate RRAT standing committee to heel in order to achieve a firm recommendation to dam and divert NSW Northern Rivers water.
It may be that the committee is now considering referring these proposals on to another committee or agency which will consider the matter after the 2007 Federal Election.
At which time Howard hopes to re-invent himself as Mussolini and make the rivers run on time.
As to how I view this rumour? As the saying goes, a week is a long time in politics. Three to five months can see yet another backdoor attempt by the Howard Government to impose its will on the unwilling Page and Cowper electorates.
The Clarence Valley needs to stay both alert and alarmed.
